Urgent Call to Address the Plight of Ethnic Amhara People in Ethiopia!

Amm comm Jan 25-2022 በደብረ ብርሃንከምሥራቅና ምዕራብ ወለጋ 5.jpeg

We stand in solidarity with the Amhara people facing ongoing mass atrocities in Ethiopia, demanding immediate action to end the violence, uphold human rights, and justice.

Why Stand with the Amhara?

Reports from international bodies and human rights groups have condemned the ongoing ethnic-based violence and grave human rights violations against the Amhara people. The Lemkin Institute of Genocide Prevention has issued multiple statements on atrocities in various regions, including a series of Active Genocide Alerts concerning the current conflict in the Amhara region, which focus on the targeted violence against ethnic Amhara individuals.

Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission have extensively documented the involvement of government forces in extrajudicial killings, drone strikes and sexual violence, underscoring the urgent need for accountability. This calls for a UN inquiry to investigate these atrocities and ensure justice for the victims.

These ongoing atrocities have resulted in countless civilian fatalities, mass displacement and humanitarian crisis, arbitrary detention, and the deprivation of education for millions of Amhara children. It is imperative that leaders condemn these actions, mobilize support for the Amhara people, and advocate for accountability. As global citizens, it is our responsibility to ensure that international policies and diplomatic efforts address such egregious violations of human rights.

Subject: Urgent Call to Address the Plight of Ethnic Amhara People in Ethiopia Congressman Nick Langworth Corning District Office 89 W. Market Street Corning, NY 14830 Dear Congressman Langworth, I am writing to you with deep concern regarding the ongoing mass atrocities against the Amhara ethnic group in Ethiopia. Recent reports from reputable international bodies and rights groups have highlighted ethnic-based violence and grave human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, civilian drone strikes, arbitrary detentions and arrests, and widespread government-led atrocities and sexual violence perpetrated against the Amhara people. This violence has resulted in the displacement of many and has left millions of Amhara children out of school.
